Savotta Jääkäri (XL)

The Jääkäri XL is an improved model of the modular LJK paratrooper rucksack originally designed for the Finnish Defence Forces. The largest pack in the Jääkäri series.

The XL size carrier of the Jääkäri family is much more than a normal backpack. Its carefully thought-out details and comprehensive “molle” webbing makes the backpack a modular and versatile tool that can be customized to the user’s needs. Thanks to its narrow shape, the user of the backpack can easily cope with skiing and hiking in difficult and difficult terrain. Thanks to the strong hand-welded aluminum frame and the renewed vest carrier, the Jääkäri backpack is a sturdy to carry. The support frame keeps the Jääkäri in good posture and distributes the load anatomically to the hips so that the back and shoulders are not overloaded even with a heavy load. The waist belt of the backpack is detachable and if necessary, acts as a separate fighting or an equipment belt.

Compartments

The Jääkäri's bag (height 84cm (Rolltop maximum size 112cm), 32cm, 23cm) is designed to be narrow, but still spacious enough to fit the necessary equipment for longer hikes. The opening of the backpack bag is closed with a roller collar familiar from dry bags. The rolltop is easy to use and is practically waterproof. The roll closure structure oppened also makes it easier to pack the backpack. Rolltop allows you to change the volume of the backpack between 80-100 liters, and the package is always tight!

The mouth is covered with a lid which is closed with straps. The lid is fastened on both sides with adjustable straps. This “floating” lid allows easy overpacking and protection for the overpacked load. The fair length of the straps gives plenty of space under the lid for accessories, such as a sleeping bag. Inside the lid is a spacious pocket for valuable items, that can be closed with a zipper (size 5L, dimensions 33cm, 31cm).

Inside the backpack is a divider, with which the backpack bag can be divided in two parts, top and bottom. At the top, inside the backpack is a pocket (35cm, 30cm) for a hydration reservoir or accessories to be kept separate. This pocket can hold 13.3” laptop, or smaller pads. In the middle, at the bottom of the rolltop is a protected outlet for the hose of the hydration reservoir, antennas or cables.

The contents of the lower part of the backpack are quickly accessible via a separate zipper. The zipper has two pulls with strings, so the lower part can be opened well anywhere you want, even with gloves on. At the bottom of the backpack is adjustable rubber bands (2 pcs) with a quick-release locks. The bottom flap also has four mesh pockets (13cm x 13cm) for storing loose items and valuables.

With the four straps on the sides of the Jääkäri, the backpack can also be tightened tightly with insufficient packaging. The straps are equipped with quick-release locks and are detachable, as well as adjustable with shortening buckles. The hand-welded DUR aluminum support frame attachment to the vest carrier happens with molle loops, which makes it possible to adjust the carrier so that for example gun bag can be placed in between backpack and the frame.

At the bottom of the sides are open pockets with rubber band, in which you can put small accessories, or alternatively a long tool or a drinking bottle. The bottoms of these pockets also have metal rings to remove water from the pocket.

PALS webbing

A Jääkäri would not be a Jääkäri without the modularity brought by the PALS attachment webbing, or more familiarly “MOLLE”. PALS / MOLLE is a attachment system that is used by the military in almost every country. This attachment system has been created for a need that requires absolute modularity and durability. MOLLE stands for: Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. PALS stands for: Pouch Attachment Ladder System.

By applying this technique, the Jääkäri backpack has been created as a top modular entirety. Molle can be found on the front, sides, lid of the Jääkäri and even on the carrying straps and waist belt. With Molle, you can attach any PALS-compatible pouch to almost anywhere you want. With the help of suitable pouches, the Jääkäri backpack can be expanded into a compact anatomical backpack. In addition to the modular attachment option, the mole webbing strengthens and supports the backpack. One loop of molle can withstand a pull of more than 100 kg.

Other attachment points:

The long fastening straps runs over the top lid and from the front down to the middle of the backpack. Correspondingly, from the bottom of the backpack, the straps attached to the frame rise upwards. If necessary, the 25mm strap dives nicely along the Molle webbing and can be lifted to the surface from where you want. This allows the item to be securely tied to the front of the backpack without extra loose straps. The bottom of the backpack has two rows of Molle through which the straps can run. This also allows the equipment to be tied to the bottom of the backpack. For example, rolled mats are well suited for carrying at the bottom. Attachment points can also be found on the waist belt of the backpack.

There are fastening loops at the front and at the bottom of the Jääkäri (2 + 2 pcs.) for transporting items such as a camping ax.

It is also possible to tighten items behind the side straps of the backpack, that would not otherwise fit in the backpack. The straps are dimensioned long enough so that they extend over the backpack to the opposite attachment.

Carrying

The Jääkäri backpack has a new carrying system. The detachable waist belt is attached to the backpack with a Molle webbing. The waist belt sits firmly in place and makes the trip comfortable, distributing the load correctly over the pelvic bones. The lumbar cushion against the back is also helpful here. The waist belt is fastened with a strong quick-release buckle that tightens inwards and opens conveniently if necessary, but not accidentally.

The waist belt also has a tightening of the lower part of the backpack, with which the lower part of the backpack can be tightened into a firm package. The belt detaches from the vest carrier with little effort and acts as a fighting or an equipment belt. The belt has a two rows of Molle webbing to which the user can add any pockets as needed.

The base of the Jääkäri's carrying system is the DUR aluminum tubular frame, which is lightweight and durable. The wide straps of the backpack are designed to be ergonomic in terms of carrying comfort, and their durability has been improved by replacing the rivets with stitches. In front of the shoulder straps is a chest strap to balance the load and keep the backpack properly on the shoulders. The length and height of the chest strap is adjustable. The shoulder straps have fastening rings for small accessories.

Adjustments to the shoulder straps are handled with ladder buckles made of Delrin special plastic compound. The shoulder staps also have a separate adjustment for the distance of the backpack. This adjustment is used according to the terrain and / or when you want to shift the weight of the load more to your hips and rest your shoulders.

The height and tension adjustment of the vest and hip support is fully adjustable to suit the anatomy and proportions of the wearer. In addition, the vest carrier has the possibility to adjust the width of the shoulder pads, which makes the backpack suitable for both wider and narrower shoulder wearers. The backpack does not have an upper arch, which allows you to move with the backpack even in tight spaces.

The neck of the Rajajääkäri is a carrying handle, from which it is easy to move the backpack when the backpack is not on your back.
